Cornbread
I personally know several women who could cook this in their sleep and a couple who probably have.

Ingredients
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (For a slightly sweet cornbread.)
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk (Substitute with whole milk.)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup butter, melted (Substitute with bacon grease for extra flavor.)
- 1 tablespoon honey (For a touch of sweetness.)
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). If using a cast-iron skillet, place it in the oven while it heats up.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, eggs, melted butter, and honey (if using).
- Gradually stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
- If using a cast-iron skillet, carefully remove it from the oven and grease it with butter or bacon grease.
- Pour the batter into the skillet or a greased 9-inch baking dish.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cool slightly before slicing.
